meat grinder?

"I" got a meat grinder attachment for Christmas. It fits my wifes kitchen aid. It came with two disks with holes, large and small. The large holes are supposed to be the coarse grind. It comes out like fine mush. Any suggestions. Bob

Meat grindin"

Semi freeze the meat first...not frozen solid, but at 33 degrees would be perfect.....

Once semi-frozen, if its elk meat for hamburger, mix with beef fat and grind together. Maybe grind twice to your satisfaction. Can't buy that quality in the store!

Thanks, I thought there was some thing wrong with the grinder. I thought about removing half of the cutter blades. It trims better semi frozen also, but its a fine line. The Wifes Cat is my best buddy now. He got a few scrapes. Can cats be trained to hunt elk? Bob

Not familiar with the Kitchenaid attachment but if the meat is coming out mushy the knife needs sharpened or the collar needs tightened. The meat should come out like worms.

This thing has 4 sharp blades and the cutting blades are reversable. Makes 8 to use up. I get the wormy things, its just mushy. Even when cooked. Reminds me of jack in the box meat. No detail or texture, just mush. I was just wondering if the smaller holes would make the meat squirt through between the blades faster.

Sounds like the cutting blades may be in backwards?

yeah, on the grinder attachment i have for the kitchen aid. i use it on deer all the time and it comes out as 'worms". use the coarse and then the fine if you are going to make sausages, etc... me i just use it on coarse for burger and for making jerky (have one of them jerky shooter things that looks like a caulking gun).

I have a kitchen aid with the grinder attachment. The problem is that the unit it too small which makes a lot of heat from the small cylinder and the motion of tools involved. Just make sure that your meat that your grinding is very cold as previously mentioned or if you are an avid hunter and like to process your own meat, buy a decent grinder from Cabelas or BPS. I bought a Cabela's meat grinder and have been quite pleased with the results! You can not only grind meat quickly, but you can also stuff sausage with your game!

Best of luck to you and ask more questions if these didn't help.
