Moqui:
I didn't mean that these discussion shouldn't take place. They should probably occur BEFORE these things happen. Dialogue can alter what happens in the future, but can't change what's already occurred (history). I just don't want to see sportsmen continue to snipe and point fingers at each other over an issue that is a done deal.. We got lots more issues to work on and battles to fight together. Don |

I look forward to seeing you again at the AE on Saturday eve. I'll even treat you to a frosty cold one if you'd like? Heck, if you draw my number again for another $50 winning ticket like you did last year, I'll even buy you dinner on Sunday! ![]()

Well, my choice was Mary Jo Miller--that didn't happen, maybe next time around??
Ms. Martin has stated time and time again that she would work with the hunting and fishing groups and she has stated that she is very pro-hunting and fishing. She has never had a hunting or fishing license but that doesn't mean she is anti anything. My Mom has never owned a hunting or fishing license but she is very pro hunting--i could name a bunch of other folks out there that has never owned a license that i would trust to carry on the hunting and fishing heritage, like my oldest daughter--she has never had a license either but she is the first person to tell me to go hunting when i get cabin fever. Ms. Martin has made some public statements that will be reminded to her if she starts to flounder--i don't think she will want to flounder if she wants to be taken serious in her new position. Don is right, it is done and now we will have to see what happens--we do have a majority pro hunting group in the commission and i am sure they will show Ms. Martin the ropes. Who knows, maybe a young and fresh mind can make some positive changes?? Time will tell. I would like to say one more thing--i did not agree with the NRA backing Ms. Martin. I would also like to know where they got the consensus to state that they were going to back her?? I am sure it is a favor for a favor type of deal but we will have to see.

No offense taken here, Moqui. I read your reference and can see how past efforts to improve the quality of the Governor's appointments has lead to a better qualified sitting commission. Thanks for pointing it out. As for Jennifer Martin, she seems to have held up under pressure from those opposing here nonimation rather well. Her ability to maintain composure under fire has been demonstrated and now we bury the hatchet, as Don suggested, and move on to making her a strong allly and advocate for the welfare and consumptive use of Arizona's wildlife resources. |

I agree we need to make the most of the situation. It might even turn out well.
I had many of the same concerns as those who actively opposed her confirmation. But I also noted that the Jennifer Martin understands something too many of us seem to forget - that it's really all about saving and improving habitat. Couple that with no discernible impulse to rescue individual animals, a willingness to accept occasional predator reductions for specific purposes and a professed understanding that human involvement with wildlife, including killing some for sport, is what will make wildlife continue to thrive, and I think we might have an excellent commissioner here. Now we need to show her our best side for a change.

Should Ms. Martin clear the vote of the full Senate, as I understand she must, then I will accept her appointment and welcome her aboard the Commission.
stoneflynut, thanks for being a sport and for also being willing to look into the history of some of the more recent nominations offered by Lori, er, uh, Janet Napolitano. And to Larry Audsley, my personal apologies for all of the cross-fire you've endured in your efforts to support the most qualified person for the Commission. You've remained a gentleman throughout the mud-slinging, and for that, I am grateful.

I think this is the path we will have to deal with. I sat in the meeting at ADBSS last wensday when Jennifer Martin spoke. I for one was not impressed. her answers were not to any point, they were open ended which could be used in any way she feels fit. Her posture will sitting was not attentive nor was her focus (she was reading while being addressed). I excepted more in our meeting. I wish there was something we could do. Except we need to hold her to ant words she spoke.
